in my family, if you would have shown one of my uncles or aunts this picture and said, "that's the first black astronaut to fly in space," it would not be unusual to hear, "sure, to make up for it, they put two white women on that ship.
"they couldnt have just put the brotha up there and let him walk around, they had to have two white girls up in there so they could say, 'anyone could be an astronaut nowadays. aint no thing.'"
some black people are very sensitive about issues like this, and i must say that whenever i see a picture like this, i think of my relatives and as i get older i start to agree with them.
"had to be two white women. if they were so crazy about having women on there, where's the sista? no sistas applied for the job? you're telling me that in the whole USA theres not one intelligent Black woman who could have been up there? had to be two white girls."
but enough about my family, click the picture and find out a little more about Dr. Bernard A. Harris, Jr., the first Black astronaut to walk in space.
