supertsar7 :
ok, first of all, where were you born?
OliverWill :
Silver Spring,
MD
supertsar7 :
i was born in DC!
OliverWill :
cool
OliverWill :
no wonder we got
along
supertsar7 :
other than yours and mine, what other brilliant
Black blogs are there out there?
OliverWill :
there's formica.ca,
allaboutgeorge.com, hideouskinky.net
off the top of my head
supertsar7 :
nice. love it.
supertsar7 :
what does Black History Month mean to you?
OliverWill :
Hmm. A time to
give some sort of equal time to a much neglected part of history but its also
a reminder of how we should integrate black history and other groups into
"mainstream" historical teaching
supertsar7 :
When did you graduate high school?
OliverWill :
1994
supertsar7 :
pretty mixed high school?
OliverWill :
no, my high school
was about 90-95% black
supertsar7 :
so I imagine there was a lot of Black history
taught in your school?
OliverWill :
Probably better
than most schools. My problem is that I don't want it to be a separate unit,
but just another part of the whole pie.
supertsar7 :
Was it taught separately at your school?
OliverWill :
I think it was
integrated pretty decently, but we did have "Black History Month" activities
as well
supertsar7 :
Do you remember any of those activities?
Care to share any?
OliverWill :
I don't really
remember it. I remember doing a report on Sojourner Truth, but that's about
it.
supertsar7 :
Ok, give us a sentence on Sojurner? Who
is he/she?
OliverWill :
She spoke publicly
for the rights of blacks, and sued for the rights to her son who was illegally
sold to a Plantation.
OliverWill :
I cant remember more than that
OliverWill :
